Where to Eat

Here is my list of favorite restaurants that love local and sustainable food.  They are not all 100%, but they are all sourcing sustainable meats and seafood, and/or local produce.  This is my own personal list, not an exhaustive one. These are the places that I feel really “get it” on the whole.

The places with a *star* are my favorites, and where you can find me more often that I’d like to admit.

Washington, DC area:

1789 (local pork, most everything sustainably sourced if not local)

Bar Pilar (meats, seasonal produce, eggs, cheese)

Blue Ridge (meats, seasonal produce, sustainable seafood)

Brasserie Beck (most meats, unsure about produce)

*Cashion’s Eat Place (meats, unsure about produce)

Chesapeake Room (almost everything, including local wines)

*CommonWealth: The People’s GastroPub (ground beef, some produce) my review

Dolcezza Gelato (milk and cream, some local produce)

Fresh Start Catering (social enterprise of DC Central Kitchen) (meats, seasonal produce, dairy)

Mie N Yu (meats, lettuce, eggs)

Nora (all organic, much is local)

Potenza (meats)

Ris (some produce, some meats)

*Saint Ex (meats, seasonal produce, eggs) my review

Sonoma (meats, produce, dairy, sustainable seafood)

*sweetgreen (local poultry, tofu, cheeses, seasonal local produce list)

Taqueria Nacional (meats- pork at least) my review

Vidalia (meats, cheese and dairy, produce)

Volt (Frederick, MD) (meats, sustainable fish, produce)

Zola (meats)

Restaurants I believe use local food, but I have not been to (yet!):

Marcel’s

Brabo (Alexandria, VA)

Bibiana Osteria and Enoteca

Willow (Arlington, VA)

Restaurant Eve (Alexandria, VA)

Blue Duck Tavern

*More to come! If you know of a DC area restaurant that is using local, sustainable food and is not listed here… please leave me a comment and let me know! I love adding more and more restaurants to this list 🙂
